About Old World Style Furniture & Decor

"Old World Style" includes a broad gathering of Western and Eastern European influences. This also includes Russia, which due to it's location and history, brings a slight Asian flavor too. Not only that, but with African and Middle Eastern influences in southern and eastern Europe, "Old World Style" is more European Antiquity themes with highlights of exotic trade kingdoms.

Objects associated with "Old World Style" are usually beautiful, hand crafted pieces. This was a time before most modern manufacturing processes and everything was carefully constructed by hand.

In the "old world" there were very rarely any closets. People used wardrobes, chests, and dressers to store clothing. Heavy wooden chests and imposing armoires were common.

Bedroom sets create a magnificent center piece for the room, and should be always be the largest furniture in there. Four-poster, sleigh, canopy, and basic box are common traditional bed-frame styles

Electronic entertainment should always be hidden. If there needs to be a large, flat screen TV in the bedroom, use a big wood shelf with doors to put it in. Keep any visible entertainment in that proper old world style. Try a chess-table, writing desk, or reading corner, they existed in almost every period.
