4/30/08 The Meaning Of
"Cinco De Mayo"
Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “Fifth of May”),
national holiday in Mexico commemorating the Mexican Army’s defeat of French
forces on May 5, 1862, in the Batalla de Puebla (Battle of Puebla).
During the battle, General Ignacio Zaragoza led the vastly outnumbered Mexican
army to victory over the French forces of Emperor Napoleon III. The triumph of
Mexican forces at the Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican unity and
patriotism.
Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico, and also in regions of the United States
with sizeable communities of Mexican origin, including the Southwest, southern
California, and other areas. Festivities often include sports events, parades,
mariachi music and dancing, picnics featuring Mexican food, and beauty contests.
Cinco de Mayo is sometimes confused with Mexican Independence Day
(September 16), which commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1810 when
revolutionary priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla issued a proclamation declaring
Mexico independent from Spain.

When you think of Southwest come to your mind images of sun, blue skies and the
beauty of the American Southwestern region.
Is in this area of our country that a particular furniture style was born. Also
called New Mexican, Taos or Santa Fe style. Most of the designs you will find
available share common design, features.
Most of this furniture is hand carved and the quality ones are made from
scratch. Southwest style furniture is very special. With it's warm earthy tones
complement other styles. Elaborated furniture can feature painstakingly hand
carved panes, legs and aprons.
This style originated in areas of New Mexico & Arizona. Their simplicity was
driven by the scarcity of materials. Early Spanish settlers used primarily pine
wood, wood pegs instead of iron for example. Influenced by Native American,
Colonial Spanish & Mexican cultures the style has been growing in popularity.
With the Internet revolution dozens of websites offer now online catalogs with
their designs. Next time you come across a website with this particular
furniture take a look and note their differences some have very plain straight
lines not really having the entire Southwestern look.
A good furniture designer & manufacturer will put a lot of care in their
products. Attention to detail is important. Giving furniture an old look not too
rustic will result in elegant pieces you can enjoy for years to come.
We invite you to visit and browse our catalog, of elegant Southwestern
furniture. here at

RSS Feeds a format with growing popularity. Even though this technology has been
around for some time not too many websites use the format. We decided to go a
step ahead and pass the newsletter by email. With this service you will not
receive an email. For more information read the article below. We hope you enjoy
the service and your feedback will be appreciated !
What is
RSS? RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for delivering regularly
changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online
publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to
easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are
interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You
ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The
number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names
like Yahoo News.
What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed? RSS Feed Readers and News Aggregators
Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from
various sites and display them for you to read and use.
A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms. Some popular
feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac), FeedReader (Windows),
and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook). There are also a number of
web-based feed readers available. My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are
popular web-based feed readers.
Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate
content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks.
Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms RSS, XML, or RDF to let you
know a feed is available.
